Nutec is the tradename for a fibre cement board made by Everite. It is a South African made product.
However, Nutec has become a generic term used for any fibre cement board. There are several brands available of varying quality and price, to suit any budget. Genuine Nutec is more expensive than some other brands, however, it comes with a manufacturers guarantee.
So what is a fibre cement board?
Man made fibres (small plastic and fibre glass hair like fibres) are mixed with portland cement, which is then put into molds to form boards. Other additives are used, but that is basically it. Boards can be either large flat boards, or long, narrow strips (often with a wood grain pattern added)- Wendy houses made using the latter are referred to as 'overlaps' as the planks are arranged in a horizontal, overlapping pattern, each plank overlapping the one below. The only draw back? Its more expensive than traditional wooden cladding, but well worth it if you can invest and need that longevity. So if you are building a site office to be used for a year, then probably not worth the extra, if you are building a family home, then well recommended to find the extra budget- you're future self will thank you.
Not strictly flat, the roof slopes from one side of the structure to another. Because of the single span the angle cannot be too big or the overall structure is too high on one side. A low cost way of roofing your structure.
Your Nutec wendy house will look like a proper house, with an a-shaped roof. The angle of the roof can be greater, making it more efficient, and creates a handy roof space for things like geysers. Due to the requirement of a-frames is slightly more expensive than a flat roof.
Depending on your needs, aesthetics, and budget we can fit either wooden or aluminium window frames. We recommend fitting aluminium units into Nutec Wendy houses as they are more durable and fit with the low maintenance of the Nutec.
Wendy houses can either be free standing with no foundation or can be built onto a concrete foundation slab. If you are not planning on moving your Wendy house, and especially if it is to be lived in, we recommend a slab where possible- obviously budget dependent.
As standard, Wendy houses are lined with plastic, but not finished inside. To make the space more useful, either as a home, or office etc, we can insulate and plaster board the inside of the Wendy house- even all the way to decorating and installing bathrooms and kitchens.
